RELIGION:
The major religion of Mizoram is
Christianity. This imfluences both society and culture of the the Mizoram.
These people celebrate all Christian festivals. There are some tribes who
follow Buddhism and Animism. The people who follow Buddhism believe in the
supreme God to be the sole creator of everything in the universe. That God is
called as Paithan. The Mizo's also believe in the Heaven (pialral) and the Hell
(Mithikhua).

The artists are skillful in converting simple raw materials into attractive items. The craftsmen are best in weaving. The weavers use bright colours and traditional designs and patterns on their looms and create wonderful fabrics. Cane and bamboo handicrafts are also made here. They are known for both beauty and durability. The bazaars of Mizoram are lined with shops selling a wide variety of handicrafts such as baskets, utensils, hats, flowers vases, furniture etc., Basketry is popular craft among the tribes in Mizoram. The people make baskets out of the soft fibers of cane. The Mizo women weave intricate traditional designs and patterns on their looms. For example, the shawls carrying tribal clan motifs woven into them and are passed down the generations.

Puan |
One of the traditional dresses of Mizoram women is ''Puan". The main dress is Pawl Kut and Chapchar Kut. Puan has shades of black and white. The black shades are made of synthetic fur. Women who belong to the Lusei tribe have a blue skirt stitched from cotton fabric as their traditional dress. The ladies of this tribe pair this blue skirt with a white jacket and a cloth which one can wrap around the body. The dress is incomplete without a headgear on the top. Bass and cane are the raw materials used to make this headgear. Men belonging to the tribe named Lusei wear clothes made up of cotton fabric only. They, themselves, cultivate this cotton in their region. Hmaram is a handmade cloth which is famous amongst kids.

Koat Pitha |
Bai is one of the most popular dishes of Mizoram. This dish is prepared using lots of locally available herbs and spices. Koat Pitha is made of rice flour and bananas, It is a fried dish. They also add fish as it is one of their staples. The another popular dish is the pork which is flavoured with some delicious herbs. It is smoked and cut into cubes. There are two popular drinks in mizoram. One of them is Zu, the local tea and the other one is Lubrusca grape wine.
