Hidden in the
north eastern region of India, Arunachal Pradesh is a land of capitivating
scenery, majestic Himalayan backdrop, abundant greenery, soaring waterfalls and
pictorial lakes. Apart from this splendid natural beauty, Arunachal Pradesh is
also known for rich cultural heritage.
RELIGIONS:
Arunachal Pradesh truly has a distinctive
culture as it is comprised of 26 different tribes including various sub tribes.
Mostly, the residents of Arunachal Pradesh follow their indigenous religions which
are highly inclined towards nature. However, around 30% of the population of this
state practice Christianity. Arunachal
Pradesh also has a strong presence of Buddhism.
LANGUAGES:
More
than 50 dialects of Tibeto-Burman language can be observed here. Dafla, Adi
Gallong, Mishri, Nocte, Monpa, Aka etc., have been developed by the tribes
living there. The language known as Adi is chiefly spoken by the individuals of
the Adi tribe. Arunachal doesn’t have any main language as there are many
tribes and sub tribes. However, English remains the official language

Arunachal
Pradesh has a rich tradition of craftsmenship. Ornaments making is a craft
widely practiced in Arunachal Pradesh. The silver smith’s work is more
artistic. Many traditional weapons have been used by tribes in this state.
Arunachal Pradesh is rich in
making handlooms. They have got unique and appealing Handloom designs. Around
the Wancho area of the Tirap district,the tribes also excel in the part of
woodcarvings. Weaving is an important industry in the households of Arunachal
Pradesh.

FOOD:
Arunachal Pradesh food differs from tribe to
tribe. Rice is a staple food of Arunachal Pradesh. The most different thing
about their rice is that Arunachalis cook their rice in the hollow bamboo over
some hot coal. Arunachalis use bamboo shoot in almost every dish they make.
Pika pila is a famous pickle made by the Apatani tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.
Lukter (beef sprinkled with chilly flaked while being smoked dry), pehak
chutney (chutney made with chilli and fermented soya beans), apong (rice beer),
momos, meat are the important food here.
Dairy products are famous towards the area of Tawang.

FESTIVALS:
SOLUNG |
Solung is a festival related to agriculture
of the state. It is celebrated in the month of July or August. Solung is a
ten-day festival and it shows the agricultural diversity of the state. The
Nyishi tribes celebrate Nyokum festival in Arunachal Pradesh. The festival aims
at the prosperity and harmony of human beings. These tribes enjoy the whole
festival by songs and dancing. Losar festival is celebrated to welcome a new
year. It is the festival of Monpa tribe. During this festival the local deity
is worshipped by Monpas for the welfare of the society and the people. The
Siang River festival is held to celebrate the communal harmony. In this
festival, the adventure and fun activities activities like elephant race,
traditional boat race, folk dances, food festivals etc., also take place.

MUSIC AND DANCE:
The
dance forms vary from tribe to tribe. The Mishmi priests indulge in igo dance,
Adis, Wanchos, Noctes indulge in war dance, Buddhists in ritualistic dance. Popir,
Hurkani, Roppi, Aji Lamu, Rekham, lion dance etc., are some of the popular folk
dances in this state. Ja-Jin-Ja is the folk song that is sung during marriages
and other social events. Baryi is a song that narrates mythology, history and
religious lore of the people of this state. Nyioga is the song sung for the
bride that has advice for her future life.
